Temperatures are rising and your garden should be ready to bloom. Here we outline those key jobs for June to keep your garden at its very best…
- Water and Water some more…
Its vital to keep you garden hydrated during the summer months, particularly in hot spells. Focus on the areas that need it such as young plants and vegetables and make sure they get a thorough soaking.
Keep on top of weeding regularly, pull out annual weeds making sure you remove from the root to avoid regrowth.
- Deadhead fading blooms
Removing fading flowers on perennials as soon as possible ensures new growth and flowers later into the season. Use secateurs to trim the plant back to just above the strongest buds.
- Support tall plants
Keep your borders tidy by supporting and protecting taller plants from the elements.
- Summer bedding
There is little chance of frost now so you can fill your borders with some fantastic bedding plants.
- Vegetable garden
Many of the early crops such as peas will be coming up for harvest around now but its important to keep sowing out salad vegetables to ensure a succession of crops throughout the Summer. Sow in small quantities regularly to keep them coming. As with the rest of the garden it is important to keep vegetables well watered in the warmer months. Your tomatoes can go outside but it is important to keep them supported with a frame.
