Jobs for March

Spring is in the air! Below is a list of some of the gardening jobs to get done in March.

  • Winter protection can now be removed!
  • Trim lawns as required and apply fertliser later in the month.
  • Lift and divide overgrown clumps of perennials.
  • Cut back Cornus (dogwood) and Salix (willow) for colourful winter stems.
  • Transplant shrubs and smaller trees as required.
  • Deadhead the flowers of Narcissus (daffodils) as they fade, but allow the foliage to die down naturally.
  • Prune and feed roses.
  • Prune summer flowering shrubs such as lavender.
  • Plant summer flowering bulbs now.
  • Trim lawn edges.
  • Weed beds.
  • Turn compost heaps.
  • Re-pot specimen plants in pots.
